Tammy’s Blog: Seniors and Children; an amazing connection
The Oakridge Seniors Centre and Oakridge Montessori Learning Centre walked together Friday June 13th to raise money benefiting the Seniors Centre.
Seniors and children held hands, walking, chatting and some goofing off (not just the kids) despite the cool and rainy Vancouver weather.
I had the privilege of being the official lap counter. I sat at my table enjoying the company of two lovely young women volunteering their time for St John Ambulance and I am thinking I have the best job in the world.
The oldest walker of 91 years walked strong and proud crossing the finish line as she was captured on film.
After the last walker came in, we all headed back to the Centre for a BBQ lunch prepared by volunteers.
Wet sneakers and damp green and pink t-shirt signifying our participation was the luncheon attire.
Together they raised over $6000.00 for The Oakridge Seniors Centre.
Check out their website July newsletter for pictures of the event.
Home Care West was one of the sponsors of this event and also that we sponsor a Nordic Walking program every Thursday at The Oakridge Seniors Centre. See our events calendar for more details
