What to look for when hiring privately?

When advertising for a care giver try to keep your audience small, otherwise you may be inundated with applicants. Try a church bulletin, local community paper or news letter of a group to which you belong.

SAFETY & SECURITY

Make sure the care giver can provide references you can rely upon
Make sure they are sufficiently trained to provide the type of care you need
Ask for a criminal record check or are they bondable
Do they have liability insurance?
Ensure your own coverage by WCB is in place, and you are making the correct deductions when writing their pay cheque
Will they be able to provide their own back up incase of illness or home emergency?
