Keeping Connected BBQ at the West Vancouver Seniors’ Centre

Over 100 seniors gathered together August 14th for the 3rd Annual Keeping Connected BBQ. Before the gate opened at 5:00 people started to arrive. Colorful patio lanterns were strung, summer flowers were placed on the tables and the scent of BBQ burgers and hot dogs floated through the air.

Cool homemade tasting lemonade was served and for a small price you could buy a cold beer or a glass of wine to enhance your spirit.

The party flowed through from the cafeteria and beyond to the outdoor patio in the back of the West Vancouver Seniors Centre.  You could hear laughter, see familiar smiles; I could see everyone was having a wonderful time. It seemed like I was the only one that had to read from the song sheet as “The Londoners” lead a sing-a-long, reminding us all of simpler times and days gone by.

By 8:00 it was time to go home, our bellies were full, our hearts were glad and we were all looking forward to next year.

I want to thank Joni Vajda the Out Reach Coordinator for all of her hard work on this event and her generous heart.

This event was supported by many Senior Service providers including HomeCare West with proceeds to support the busses that bring participants to and from Keeping Connected programs.
